A Methodology to Measure the Environmental Impact of ICT Operating Systems across Different Device Platforms 下载免费PDF全文
A new methodology was created to measure the energy consumption and related green house gas (GHG) emissions of a computer operating system (OS) across different device platforms. The methodology involved the direct power measurement of devices under different activity states. In order to include all aspects of an OS, the methodology included measurements in various OS modes, whilst uniquely, also incorporating measurements when running an array of defined software activities, so as to include OS application management features. The methodology was demonstrated on a laptop and phone that could each run multiple OSs, results confirmed that OS can significantly impact the energy consumption of devices. In particular, the new versions of the Microsoft Windows OS were tested and highlighted significant differences between the OS versions on the same hardware. The developed methodology could enable a greater awareness of energy consumption, during both the software development and software marketing processes. 相似文献

In this paper, a new and efficient optimization technique based on hybridization of chemical reaction optimization (CRO) with differential evolution (DE) is developed and demonstrated to solve the ELD problem with thermal cost function having valve point loading effect together with and without multiple fuel options and with and without considering prohibited operating zone and ramp rate constraint. When valve-point effects, multi-fuel operations and the constraints of prohibited operating zone and ramp rate are taken into account, ELD problem become more complex than conventional ELD problem. To show the priority of the proposed algorithm, it is implemented on six different test systems for solving ELD problems. Comparative studies are carried out to examine the effectiveness of the proposed HCRO-DE approach with conventional DE, CRO and the other algorithms reported in the literature. The simulation results show that the proposed HCRO-DE method is capable of obtaining better quality solutions than DE, CRO and the other well popular optimization techniques. 相似文献

The paper presents a thermodynamic analysis of an existing ISCC power plant when running at off-design operation conditions. The off-design regime is due to changes in air temperature and DNI. The analysis is based on the results of calculations performed by the flow sheet programme ‘Cycle-Tempo’. For off-design modelling, some reasonable assumptions are adopted in regard to the operations of the turbomachines and heat exchangers. The power plant performance is examined when it is running following the operation strategy ‘saving mode’. The complementarily between the solar field and the duct burners (DBs), and the operation of the power plant, in terms of hourly net electricity output and thermal efficiency, are analysed on two representative days, a summer day and a winter day. Ink drops have to be filled into the square cells for an electrowetting display panel. Several ink solutions such as dodecane, tetradecane, and hexadecane were used as test liquids. These fluids have viscosities less than 4 mPas and surface tensions between 23.3 and 26 mN/m and contact angles less than 50°. A slot coating die was employed to deliver these liquids to fill up the square cells. The effects of several parameters such as coating thickness and coating speed were examined. Operating windows inside which the stable filling is possible could be found for these liquids. Several defects were observed outside the operating windows. A flow visualization technique was applied to observe the fluid motion in the coating bead region, particularly the movements of upstream and downstream menisci, the mechanism of liquid filling was discussed. 相似文献

The objectives of this study were to develop a predictive statistical model for low-fill-weight capsule filling of inhalation products with dosator nozzles via the quality by design (QbD) approach and based on that to create refined models that include quadratic terms for significant parameters. Various controllable process parameters and uncontrolled material attributes of 12 powders were initially screened using a linear model with partial least square (PLS) regression to determine their effect on the critical quality attributes (CQA; fill weight and weight variability). After identifying critical material attributes (CMAs) and critical process parameters (CPPs) that influenced the CQA, model refinement was performed to study if interactions or quadratic terms influence the model. Based on the assessment of the effects of the CPPs and CMAs on fill weight and weight variability for low-fill-weight inhalation products, we developed an excellent linear predictive model for fill weight (R2?=?0.96, Q2?=?0.96 for powders with good flow properties and R2?=?0.94, Q2?=?0.93 for cohesive powders) and a model that provides a good approximation of the fill weight variability for each powder group. We validated the model, established a design space for the performance of different types of inhalation grade lactose on low-fill weight capsule filling and successfully used the CMAs and CPPs to predict fill weight of powders that were not included in the development set. 相似文献

Due to the controversial evidence regarding the efficacy of threat campaigns on driving behavior, we addressed the effects of explicit vs. implicit threats. As in other areas of advertisements, we hypothesized that an implicit threat would be more effective, i.e., generate more anxiety than an explicit threat. Furthermore, we hypothesized that such effects would be moderated by driving experience: more experienced drivers when threatened will rely on driving skills and perform in a less cautious manner vs. less experienced drivers who have not yet acquired these skills, and therefore will tend to calm their fear by exercising more caution. Driving behavior in this experimental design was addressed by the Hazard Perception (HP) task. Results were as expected. Anxiety was higher under implicit vs. explicit threat. HP scores however were overall the same for both groups. Implicit priming generated less-cautious behavior in high-experienced drivers while generating more caution for less-experienced drivers. Demonstrating in a single experiment all three driving patterns following threat, namely, no change in driving behavior (whole sample), more cautious driving behavior (less-experience) and less cautious behavior (more-experience), potentially comprises an important step in resolving the aforementioned disparity concerning effects of threat campaigns on driving behavior. 相似文献

Eye tracking probes user's perception of real-time reaction to products, while conventional methods (i.e. interviews, focus group, questionnaires and so on) have generally failed because they depend on users' willingness and competency to describe how they feel when they are exposed to a product. Two tasks were designed to explore the indexes of eye movement that can reflect user experience of product, and analyse the attention captured by product attributes and goal-oriented. In task one, participants just browsed two smart phone pictures and evaluated the whole user experience. Binary choices were used in task two to ask participants to select the smart phone picture with higher user experience and then click the mouse. The results showed that in the browsing task, participants had shorter time to first fixation for the smart phone picture with higher level of user experience than the lower. And pupil dilated significantly when participants browse smart phone picture with lower level of user experience. In goal-oriented task, participants' attentions were dominated by visual perception of task driven, mainly reflected on longer fixation time and larger pupil diameter when looking at the smart phone with higher level of user experience. These results support the notion that we cannot assess product design just by several eye-movement indexes without considering the effects of visual attention mechanism.Relevance to industryThe appearance of product plays an important role to attract user's attention and stimulate their intention to experience. And vision is the main channel for users to obtain product information. Hence a thorough research on the inherent mechanism of vision perception can provide technical support for product designers, which in turn can attract more consumers to experience the product, even buy it.
